The most developed blockchains of the moment
As Outlier Ventures’ report points out, the momentum of a blockchain project can be measured in part by developer activity. This indicates a technology’s ability to update itself, and it gives an indication of the contributions it will be able to make over the long term.
Outlier Ventures reports that the most developed blockchains at the moment are firstly Ethereum, with 42,457 commits on Github, followed by Cardano (37,327), with Bitcoin closing the top three (21,614). Commits are of course a partial – and sometimes criticized – indicator, but they still give an overall idea of the work of teams dedicated to a blockchain.

Notably, it is Polkadot (DOT) and Cosmos (ATOM) that follow the top three. The report explains that multi-chain protocols have indeed continued to make strong progress since last year. Avalanche (AVAX) has quadrupled its activity over the past year.

An activity that reflects the most important sectors of the moment
Some Ethereum killers, however, have seen their development activity dwindle in recent months. This is the case for Tron (TRX), Eos (EOS), Komodo (KMD) and Qtum (QTUM).

Unsurprisingly, the report notes that projects related to decentralized finance (DeFi) are also particularly dynamic at the moment. On the DeFi side, Maker is showing the most activity, even though it’s down. It’s followed by Gnosis and Synthetix, but Outlier Ventures notes that the biggest breakthroughs are to be found in Aave and Bancor.
