AMC Theatres to accept bitcoin and co.
Global movie theater operator AMC Theatres is adding Bitcoin and three other cryptocurrencies as payment methods by the end of 2021, according to a tweet from CEO Adam Aron today, Thursday, September 16.
Users in the U.S. will then be able to conveniently purchase movie tickets online using Bitcoin. With over 8400 movie screens in the United States alone, this makes the heart of Bitcoin advocates beat faster.
Adam Aron stated:
Cryptocurrency enthusiasts: you probably know, @AMCTheatres, has announced that we will be accepting Bitcoin for online ticket and concession payments by the end of 2021. I can confirm today that in that case, we also expect to similarly accept Ethereum, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash.
In this case, the choice is limited to these four cryptocurrencies. Most likely, they were chosen due to their high prevalence and similar implementation at the same time – except for Ether – but it is not clear.
Open to blockchain technology
Back on August 9, it was announced that bitcoin payments would be accepted in most US cinemas. At the same time, it wasn’t entirely clear whether other cryptocurrencies would follow. With the move and the upcoming implementation of Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum and Bitcoin Cash, one of the major mainstream companies in the US is taking a big step towards crypto adaptation.
